Are you a patient?

May 24, 2013

Vidapost is busy promoting A Healthy Billion Challenge 1 : 1 Billion Steps and we hope you’ll join us in the summer challenge.  In order to register for the challenge, we first ask that you take the Vidapost Pledge :

Vidapost Pledge

As you can see, there are only 3 options:  Patient, Provider or Caregiver.  And as the amount of people interested in participating in the challenge grows, the same question is often asked:

“But wait, I am not a Provider, Caregiver or a Patient.  What do I sign up as?

The short and quick answer is:  A Patient.  If you are not a provider or a caregiver, then you are a patient.  As you complete your profile, you will simply check ‘healthy’ under conditions.

Now here is the long (or longer) answer:

At Vidapost, our mission is to build a community of providers, caregivers and patients dedicated to working together to improve everyday care collaboration and the overall health & wellness of those with chronic conditions.  When taking the pledge, we ask that you sign up with the role that is most pertinent to you at this time.

And we believe every single one of us fits one of these roles AT ALL TIMES.

But here is what most typically think (or what first comes to mind):

You hear the word provider.  You typically think Doctor and/or medical care team.

You hear the word caregiver.  You typically think of an aide taking care of Grandpa

You hear the word patient.  You think SICK PERSON.

We will cover provider and caregiver in another post but for now, take a look at the first sentence in wikipedia’s definition of Patient:  Any recipient of health care services.  Yes, it then goes into the background of patient and the typical definition that most of us think of  (sick, ill, injured, etc) but aren’t we all recipients of health care services?

(If you answered no to this question, then we need to continue educating you on the importance of preventative health).

As an early stage startup, the last thing we want to do is confuse our users but we are happy you are asking this question.  We think you will quickly understand that we are actually trying to simplify the process.  Every single one of us is 1 of 3 choices.  Plain and Simple.

We understand if you are “healthy” this may seem a bit confusing at first, but if every single one of us got involved, worked together, understood our role…

Could we improve everyday care collaboration and overall health…by the billions?

Take the pledge and let’s find out…

And if you have questions, thoughts or feedback, we’d love to hear from you!
